Latest News: May 26, 2024

Hi Darters,

The heat was on at the cauldron for Round 4 of the Port Phillip Darts League Winter teams Competition. We had a few players missing for various reasons, Mal the Bull is on international duties over in New Zealand. Best wishes to you, Mal. I hope you smash it. We welcomed back Lewy the Superfish from his recent stint in Fiji; he slotted straight back in and helped his team to victory with 7 tonnes
Downstairs on board 1, there was a real tussle between Beavers Youth and the Journeymen, the Beavers in front 2-1 after the doubles before James won the first singles to make it 2-2, then Jack Gunning put the Beavers back in front before Adam Zeibel squared it again at 3-3, Which left it to Niall `The ANiallator’ Stone to win it for the Beavers. 4 tonnes to Niall and Matt Sonders, 2 to Andy 1 to Jack and Journeymen James 4, Adam 3 and Pete 1
Next door, the soon-to-be renamed Barmy Army took on an undermanned Green Team who were short of 3 players so had to recruit at the last minute. (Dylan Roche, if you are reading this, all the best It was great to meet you, and I hope you make it back down under some time soon!) Green Team were in front early, winning the quads and one doubles match before Andrew, Jack and Neil won their singles to clinch it for the Army. Dylan Jordan pulled one back to make the final score 4-3 to Barmy Army. Neil Price 5 tonnes; Jack Davey, 3; Andrew Nette, 1; and the green team Dylan and Peter a tonne each and even old Stewie snagged a 180
Upstairs on board 5 last year Div 1 finalists, FOMO took on the Dream Team, who were missing a couple of their regular players and despite losing the quads early, the FOMO powered home 6-1, with KS racking up 7 tonnes, Jhake 4, Noel 1, Christian 2 and a 180, while Quang hit 2 for the Dream Team and Pvrew 1
On board 6, there were 2 teams unbeaten so far: the Panthers (missing Jack and Shane) vs. the Spartans (with Lewy back on board)
Spartans won the quads before the Panthers levelled it, winning the first doubles but then it was all one-way traffic as the Spartans won the next 5 games to finish 6-1 winners. 5 tonnes to Dave, 3 each to Christian and Pauric, and 1 to Juergen, while the Spartans had 7 tonnes to Lewy, 5 to Will and 4 each for Anton and Ash White
Next door, the Saints took on the Hammerheads, who were missing Charlie Clark, who had a prior engagement at Etihad Stadium. Scores were level after the 1st doubles game before the Saints lifted to win the next 4 games, Ben pulling one back for the Hammers in the singles to make the final score 5-2 to the Saints. 4 tonnes to Aron (who is proving a handy pickup) and 1 to Alec while Daniel Dimery, Randall and Ben each got 2  tonnes for the Hammers
The final match at the cauldron was the Fores (welcome back Ross) vs Beavers Old Boys and it was all Beavers early as they romped to 5-0 lead before Morgs def The Hitman and Stevie `Baby face’ Cassidy def Bollocks in the last 2 singles games to make it 5-2 to the Beavers. Bollocks wasn’t happy, I can tell you! For The Fores, Ross and Morgs are 5 tonnes each, Stevie is 4; and Ian is 1; while for the Beavers Chris the Hitman hit 8, Matrix 6, Dennis 5 and Bollocks 1
Down at the sumptuous surroundings of Middle Park bowls Club, the Mudsharks were hosting the Dragons and probably wish they hadn’t as they went down 7-0. To be fair, the Mudsharks were down a couple of regulars due to illness. Ross `The chef’ Evans (check out his Sunday roast at Middle Park; it comes highly recommended) chipped in 3 tonnes and Mick 1 while for the Dragons Samee hit 3, Geoff and Junior 2 and Blain 1. Any darters wanting a good feed and a throw should check out Middle park bowls club!
Next week is Round 5 and then the week after (Thursday, June 6), we have our annual Super Shanghai night with $300 in cash prizes to be won. I hope to see all the players there, as this is a great night, a lot of fun, and a bit of tension. Think of it as a team-building exercise but with beer and darts!
As always, thanks to Bollocks for setting up the top room and installing the new boards, hope you liked them! Christian, thank you for the maintenance on the tablets and all the players who helped out filling in for the undermanned teams, Much appreciated!
